我々人間の外耳道は、ほぼ皆同じ形をしています。子供達のは多少小さいですが、それでも形は同じで、年齢や人種においても違いはありません。
しかし、すべての動物は、とりわけ犬ですが、外耳道の形は千差万別です。動物用耳体温計ならではの特別設計、Vet-TempやPet-Tempに特徴的な延長アームやプローブなどは、動物と共に、数多くの実験を繰り返すことで得られた結果です。
動物用耳体温計のプローブは、すべての温血動物の耳やあらゆる年齢層の人間の耳にフィットします。（訳者注：本体温計は、人間用としての承認は取得しておりません。）
人間用の耳体温計は動物には適しません。なぜなら、形状が異なることと動物解剖学を意識していないからです。

We, people, have almost the same ear canal shapes. Children
have the smaller sizes but the shape is still the same for
all ages and races. However, all animals, especially dogs,
have great variety of the ear canal shapes. The extended arms
of the Pet-Temp and Vet-Temp ear thermometers and a special
profile of the probe were selected after many experiments
on animals. The probe of an animal thermometer fits into ears
of almost all warm-blooded animals and humans of all ages.
The human ear thermometers do not work well on animals because
their shapes are different and not intended for the animal
